OBITUARY

Martha Joe Zuspann

January 8, 1915 – October 7, 2018

Born to the late J.T. and Lucy Bailey, Joe was raised in the Bailey House that was built in 1909. The house was donated to the Rockwall Historical Foundation in 2016. It is being restored and will stand as homage to the Bailey Family.

Joe’s three sisters – Fay Bailey, Lucille Barnes, and Kidy McDaniel preceded her in death. Her father died when she was five and her mother raised all four girls by herself. Joe’s mother, Lucy also a native of Rockwall was born in 1879 and died in 1982 living 102 years in Rockwall. Lucy was the first woman elected County Clerk of Rockwall County and served eight years.

At the age of ten Joe joined the First Baptist Church of Rockwall and was baptized in a railroad tank. She was active in the church until she moved to Grand Prairie in 1942. She then became a member of First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. Joe lived 67 years in Grand Prairie. Joe graduated from Rockwall High School in 1933. She was in contact with her many Rockwall friends for as long as possible. It is believed that she was the last remaining person in the class of 1933. She always believed Rockwall was her real home.

Joe married Russell “Buck” Zuspann in 1937. They were married for 55 years at the time of Buck’s death in 1992. During her life in Grand Prairie she worked for J.C. Penney, Francine Shop, and a sub post office in Cicero Drug Store. She was a consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly. Joe was an avid fan of the Cowboys and Rangers.

Joe is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kay Wagoner (Eddie) and Joan Bronstad (Jack). Also, five grandchildren, Terry Driskell, Randy Wagoner, Gary Wagoner (Carol), Kristene Blackstone (Jonathan Simpson), Denise Blackstone (Ted Tessem), and three great-grandchildren, Derek Driskell, Tessa Wagoner and Elle Wagoner. She is also survived by her niece Gary Lou Barnes Geddes, and several nieces on the Zuspann side of the family.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 10:45 a.m. at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 8011 Frankford Road, Dallas, Texas 75252

Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 8011 Frankford Road, Dallas, Texas 75252

Committal Service will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Rockwall Memorial Cemetery, 409 West Washington Street, Rockwall, Texas 75087
